The thesis is divided into two parts: a translation of the selected text from English into Czech and a commentary on it. The text is an excerpt from the chapter The Later Roman Empire of the article Ancient Rome, which was published in the online version of Encyclopedia Britannica. The commentary deals with an analysis of the selected text, the methods of translation, translation problems and translation shifts.
